Question hub

Can I give my pet human medicine before I leave?

A bright clinic reception with a curved wooden counter, pendant lights and plants.

The answer

No, not unless a veterinary professional has told you to. Many medicines that are safe for people can seriously harm animals, and the right choice depends on species, size and health. Giving something on your own can also make diagnosis harder for the clinic. This is why the checklist on this site says to give no medicines, home remedies, food or water on the way unless a professional instructs you. Call the nearest emergency clinic or an animal poison control line, explain what is happening, and do only what they tell you.
